UAE's TRA postpones network sharing plans

(MENAFN) The UAE Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) said that it delayed plans to introduce a service that would allow businesses and residential consumers in the country choose their network provider, reported Arabian Business. The RTA added that the country's main telecommunications providers, Etisalat and du were not ready technically to start the network sharing service, adding that the two operators completed talks on the issue in July 2010, moreover, the firms started internal nationwide testing in the UAE in January this year. It also said that if the service was launched, then clients would have had the opportunity to choose the network provider for fixed line and broadband services. It is worth noting that network sharing will enhance competition between the operators, furthermore, it will make it fairer and break the domination of the incumbent in its areas of coverage.
