UAE's RAK consumer complaints fall 27.5% in 2011

(MENAFN) Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Economic Development's consumer protection section director, Omar Abdullah Al Bayidh, said that last year, the number of consumer complaints received by the department fell 27.5 percent from 2010 to 465, reported Khaleej Times. Al Bayidh added that registered violations included commercial fraud practices, in addition to unreasonable and illegal price increases, adding that breaking price rules, and selling products unhealthy for human consumption, were some of the other violations that were registered. He also said that recently, the section adopted better investigative methods to ease and accelerate procedures, and refute unjustifiable complaints; moreover, the department accelerated measures to crackdown on outlets or businesses establishments breaking commercial laws. It is worth noting that several complaints related to prices were referred to the bodies concerned in the Ministry of Economy according to Al Bayidh, nevertheless, other complaints proved to be groundless.
