    UAE's DP World to run Port of Nanaimo

    (MENAFN) DP World, Americas' Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, Matthew Leech, said that the company's Vancouver unit would operate the Port of Nanaimo's facilities that include the general cargo Duke Point facility and Assembly Wharf, reported Emirates 24/7. Leech added that the move followed an agreement inked between DP World Vancouver and the Nanaimo Port Authority, under which the two sides would diversify and pursue commodities along with short-sea shipping of containers to and from Vancouver Island. He also said that the port planned to import and export more commodities, adding that the deal would allow the port to explore new business opportunities and to lessen its dependence on a single market. It is worth noting that at the current time; DP World operates over 60 marine terminals worldwide, including general cargo and container handling facilities, in addition cruise terminals.
