Starwood Hotels' Q4 RevPAR in Dubai up 12%

(MENAFN) Starwood Hotels and Resorts' senior vice president and regional director in the Middle East, Guido de Wilde, said that revenue per available room (RevPAR) in the firm's Dubai properties jumped 12 percent in 2011's fourth quarter over 2010's same period, reported The National. Wilde added that Starwood expects the growth trend to continue in 2012 as there is enough demand coming into the market to increase occupancies and rates. He also said that even though hotel performance in the emirate dropped notably in 2009 and 2010 due to the global economic crisis, however, the political unrest that swept several countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region helped hotels in Dubai to recover. It is worth noting that hotels in Dubai have reported a strong start to the year, with events including the Dubai Shopping Festival, the Arab Health conference and good weather attracting tourists and business travelers.
