Abu Dhabi establishes a new tourism body

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi announced the formation of a new tourism authority to oversee the UAE capital's next stage in becoming a holiday hotspot, state-run news agency WAM reported. The establishment of the new body comes as part of a plan for tourism upgrade in Abu Dhabi, where local heritage is considered a priority. The Abu Dhabi Authority for Tourism and Culture replaces the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA). The new authority will seek to build on Abu Dhabi's record tourism performance last year which saw 2.11 million people check into its hotels. The new body will be responsible for preserving, protecting and managing the cultural heritage of the emirate, and promoting tourism development in Abu Dhabi. The new body will be also responsible of organizing conferences, exhibitions and festivals, and will issue licenses for such activities, as well as establishing and managing a tourist information centre in the emirate.
