    Hikes in UAE's public-sector salaries cost USD926m

(MENAFN) UAE's Ministry of Finance's director general, Younis Al Khouri, said that each year, rises in the public-sector wages cost the government around USD926 million, reported The National. Al Khouri added that 2012's rises, which took effect from January for workers in most federal departments, would range between 35 percent and 100 percent. He also said that 91,000 employees of the federal Government, welfare recipients and retirees received the wage and benefits hikes. Nevertheless, workers at the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior were not included in the pay rise, as their salary scale was still higher than the pay scale of the civil servants. It is worth noting that 7,300 UAE doctors were also given double bonuses, moreover, some people who receive welfare from the Social Affairs Ministry are receiving 20 percent extra in their allowances.
