    ME airline traffic posts 14.5% growth in Jan: IATA

    (MENAFN) International Air Transport Association (IATA) said that in January, Middle East airline traffic recorded a growth of 14.5 percent compared to 2011's same period, reported Gulf News. IATA added that airlines' capacity rose 10.6 percent; however, freight traffic dropped 8 percent. It also said that Middle Eastern airlines reported an increase of 9.4 percent in freight demand, recording the healthiest performance among the regions. It is worth noting that in the month, international air travel went up 5.5 percent, as per IATA estimates, whereas capacity rose 4.2 percent, resulting in a load factor of 76.6 percent, compared with 75.7 percent in January 2011.
