S Sudan to build underwater pipeline to export crude

(MENAFN) South Sudan's Minister of Petroleum and Mining, Stephen Dhieu Dau, said that the country would establish a temporary underwater oil pipeline to export crude, reported The Peninsula. Dau added that the pipeline, which comes as part of a project to transfer crude for export from ports in Kenya and Djibouti, would be located along the Nile. He also said that around 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude would be delivered to ports under the project, which would be completed by the end of 2012. On the other hand, he said that oil contributes around 98 percent of the country's income and is important to the poor country as it tries to develop infrastructure and institutions. It is worth noting that the pipeline would extend from oilfields to the capital Juba, where the crude would be conveyed to trucks and taken on to Kenya and Djibouti, according to Dau.
