(MENAFN) The Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation (CAPA) said that in 2011, the three main Gulf airports (Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi) added around 7.7 million passengers, reported Emirates 24/7. CAPA added that combined average passenger growth at the three aviation hubs rose 10.5 percent, whereas the global average was 9 percent. It also said that passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport grew 8 percent in 2011 to 51 million passengers, whereas the number would be expected to expand by 11 percent in 2012 to 56.6 million passengers. On the other hand, passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport jumped 13.9 percent in the year to 12.4 million passengers, while in 2012; traffic would be forecasted to increase by 12 percent to 14 million passengers. It is worth noting that the increase in passenger numbers in these hubs was driven by the strength of the countries' national carriers, including Dubai's Emirates and flydubai airlines.
