Kuwait Airways grounds flights over a strike

(MENAFN) Kuwait Airways was forced to ground nine flights following the recent strike by the airlines employees demanding higher salaries, Reuters reported. This is the second act of its kind from the carrier's employees. The airline's 4,000 workers last walked out last in October, also over wage demands. The upward pressure on wages in Kuwait, partly due to increased union activity since last year's Arab Spring uprisings in the region, has become a major issue for economic policymakers. Kuwait's government recently, under pressure from labor unions, agreed on a 25 percent increase state workers' wages.
