    Growth of ME carriers at 23.4% in Feb

    (MENAFN) The International Air Transport Association's (IATA) director-general and CEO, Tony Tyler, said that carriers in the Middle East recorded an international growth of 23.4 percent in February, reported Arab News. Tyler added that in the period, capacity growth stood at 16.1 percent, whereas average load factors surged 76.9 percent from 72.4 percent in 2011. He also said that global passenger demand rose 8.6 percent from the same month a year earlier, while cargo demand went up 5.2 percent, adding that cargo growth was led by Middle East airlines with a rise of 18.2 percent in demand and also 18.2 percent growth in capacity. It is worth noting that international passenger capacity was up by 7.4 percent in February, behind the 8.6 percent rise in demand, according to IATA.
