Egypt posts 28% drop in Jan tourists numbers

(MENAFN) Egypt's official statistics agency said that in January, the number of tourists who arrived to the country dropped 28 percent from 2011's same period to 820,000 tourists, reported Gulf News. The agency added that the decline is mainly attributed to the political unrest in the country following the revolution that ousted President Hosni Mubarak. It also said that the number of tourist's nights fell 14.5 percent from the same month a year earlier to 10.6 million nights. It is worth noting that in order to restore tourism rates to their former levels, Egypt's tourism ministry developed plans that include increasing the number of cultural events.
