Emirates Airlines not seeking int'l alliances: Vice Chairman

(MENAFN) The executive vice chairman and one of the founders of Emirates Airline, Sir Maurice Flanagan, said that the carrier would not consider joining any international aviation alliances, such as Oneworld or Star Alliance, as memberships entail too many compromises for the carrier, reported Arabian Business. As for acquisitions in smaller carriers, the vice chairman described the process as "not worth the outcome" since Emirates Airlines would have to invest a lot of management time and resources into the process to ensure its success. He noted that the carrier's previous purchase of a stake in SriLankan Airlines was a lesson Emirates learned from. However, Flanagan did not rule out growth for the carrier. He said that Emirates Airlines currently covers a large network of destinations and is still launching new routes and marketing campaigns to secure its position in the aviation industry.
