Syria, Lebanon to import Iranian electricity

(MENAFN) Iran Energy Ministry's official in charge of foreign exchanges, Abdolhamid Farzam, stated that next week, Tehran will begin exporting electricity to Syria and Lebanon via Iraq's power grid, reported Tehran Times. Farzam said that the procedure, which will be implemented in 2 phases, follows an agreement that was inked between the four countries in February. He added that during the first phase, Iran will transfer 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Syria and Lebanon, whereas another 200 MW will be exported in the second phase. It is worth noting that the total length of Iran's power grid is more than 780,000 km, while the country's total power generation capacity stands at 63,403 MW a year.
