2,000 additional hotel rooms in Oman in 2012/2013

(MENAFN) Undersecretary of Oman's Ministry of Tourism, Maitha Al Mahrouqi, announced that during 2012 and 2013, the Sultanate will add 2,000 hotel rooms, reported Arabian Business. Al Mahrouqi said that of the total number, 726 rooms will be added in the capital, whereas 391 rooms will be added in Duqm, the country's new city on the Arabian Sea. Moreover, the rest will be located in Salalah, Khasab and Hajar Mountains. She added that as Oman plans to draw 12 million annual visitors by 2020, the government is assessing 30 locations around the nation, including Al Hoota, Majlis al Jinn and Suhoor Caves, to become tourism resorts and attractions. It is worth noting that Oman was ranked the world's most expensive country for UK travelers last year, with average room rates growing by 19 percent from USD288 per night in 2010 to USD348.52 in 2011.
