Saudi Arabia plans to replace expat cab drivers with nationals

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia plans to employ 28,000 Saudis as cab drivers, as the kingdom seeks to involve more locals into private jobs, Arab News reported. This is the second time the labor ministry has tried to Saudize the sector, after a similar scheme was announced but failed in 2005. According to the newspaper said that the Ministry of Labor is working on a plan to replace expatriate drivers with Saudi nationals, offering them a monthly salary of at least USD1,33. There are also plans to encourage young Saudi drivers to own a limousine of their own. The oil rich Gulf state has more than 43,000 limousines owned by 1,375 companies, with Saudis accounting for just 15,000 of the drivers and 28,000 being foreigners.
