Dubai' DED imposes fines on violating retailers

(MENAFN) Dubai's Department of Economic Development's (DED) CEO of the Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection Division (CCCP), Omar Bu Shahab, stated that as some retailers breached the consumer protection law, the DED has imposed fines of USD68,045 on several shops, reported Gulf News. Shahab said that the DED has also confiscated around 800 products, adding that some stores in the emirate were misguiding consumers through submitting incorrect information. He added that a number of consumers complained that several outlets offered fake discounts under a sales campaign; however, he noted that some retailers offer 75 percent discounts all over the year. It is worth noting that retailers must get the approval of the economic department of an individual emirate for sales and discount campaigns.
