Huawei in talks with UAE's Etisalat, STC for fixed-line contracts

(MENAFN) Huawei's vice-president for delivery and service at Huawei Middle East Xia Chaojie said that the company is negotiating with UAE telecom operator Etisalat and Saudi Telecom to manage their fixed-line networks, Reuters reported. Huawei Technologies is the second-largest supplier of mobile telecommunications infrastructure equipment in the world. Chaojie also unveiled that Huawei is also in talks with several other Middle East operators. Regional telecom operators are increasingly outsourcing maintenance of networks to a third party, allowing them to better focus on marketing and customer services as a means of differentiating themselves from competitors. Outsourcing network maintenance also typically cuts telcos' operating costs by 13 to 20 percent, Chaojie said. He estimated the Middle East's managed services sector was worth USD1 billion last year, claiming Huawei's market share was 55 per cent He also indicated that Huawei is providing or have provided long-term deals with regional telecom operators including Oman's Nawras, a unit of Qatar Telecom, Saudi Arabia's Mobily - part-owned by Etisalat - and UAE's du. Huawei is also involved in building and operating high-speed Long-term Evolution (LTE) mobile networks for Saudi Arabia's three operators, in addition to UAE's Etisalat, Nawras and Oman Telecommunications Co (Omantel).
