    Egypt's June urban inflation eases to 7.3%

    (MENAFN) Official data showed that Egypt's annual urban inflation saw a downward pace in the twelve months to June 2012 on slower food prices, local media reported. The Ahramonline newspaper cited the Central Agency for Statistics and Mobilization (CAPMAS) report that said that urban inflation slowed to 7.3 percent from 8.3 percent in the 12 months to May. Food prices, which have the highest weight in the inflation index, decelerated in June causing the overall drop in inflation. Food inflation fell from 10.8 percent in the twelve months to May 2012 to 9.2 percent in the twelve months to June 2012. The report also showed a noticeable slowdown in the price of tobacco to 19 percent in June from 31 percent in May. Overall prices fell by 0.6 percent in June after they dropped by 1.3 percent in May, CAPMAS report found. Prices of furniture and equipment also decelerated month-on-month to 0.26 percent in June from 3 percent in May.
