    UAE's energy consumption rises to 1.56m ebpd: OAPEC

    (MENAFN) The Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) stated that the UAE's crude oil, gas and other energy sources demand grew to around 1.56 million equivalent barrels per day (ebpd) from nearly 1.48 million ebpd in 2010, reported Emirates 24/7. OAPEC revealed that since 2007, energy consumption in the country has gradually increased by almost 9 percent, with the highest growth recorded in 2008 at nearly 22.9 percent. The organization said that the Arab world's largest energy consumer was Saudi, with its demand standing at 3.22 million ebpd, whereas Egypt ranked third, with nearly 1.43 million ebpd. It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia ranked as the biggest regional gas consumer, with around 1.28 million ebpd, followed by the UAE, with gas consumption of nearly 1.18 million ebpd.
