MEA receives 5.4m PCs in Q2

(MENAFN) International Data Corporation (IDC) said that in the second quarter, the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region received 5.4 million PCs, including notebooks, an annual rise of 4.8 percent, reported Emirates 24/7. The leading global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets, added that notebook deliveries to the region rose 3.3 percent to 3.2 million units in the period. Nevertheless, PC deliveries reached a total of 2.2 million devices, representing a 7.2-percent gain from a year earlier. The company attributed the slow growth in demand to the political instability in the region, high volumes shipped by a number of vendors in the first quarter and the exit of some vendors in the second quarter, with high inventory levels among their channels. It is worth noting that HP continued to control the largest share of the region's PC market, in spite of a 2.7-percent on year slowdown in shipments' volume, followed by Dell, which also reported a fall of 2.7 percent in PC shipments during the second quarter, and Acer came third, with a unit growth of 55 percent year on year.
