Dubai electricity demand increases 3.8% in Q2

(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) reported a 3.8 percent increase in electricity demand in Dubai during the second quarter, compared to a year earlier. Dubai, which is the largest financial and trading hub in the Middle East, hit a record 6,165 MW in the quarter, up from a peak of 5,941 MW in the same period last year. The reason for the rise could be because the Gulf emirate has seen some recovery in business activity over the past year after a financial crisis from late 2009 to 2010. It is worth mentioning that DEWA laid 21,312km of 22 inch water pipes, in addition to laying 66,773 km of the same pipes for distribution networks during the second quarter.
