Jordan- Trade with Iraq down 27% in H1

(MENAFN) Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade's Secretary General, Maha Ali, stated that in the January-June period, trade between the Kingdom and Iraq plunged 27 percent from 2011's same period, reported Jordan Times. Ali highlighted the significance of reaching solutions to the challenges encountering trade exchange between Amman and Baghdad, and to follow up on the realization of what the two parties agreed upon in the last meeting of the 25th session of the Joint Jordanian-Iraqi Committee. She stressed the importance of making procedures for registering pharmaceutical products in Iraq easier and said that Jordan is willing to provide Iraqi personnel with training in the field of companies' control, standards and metrology, investment, agriculture, customs and metrology. During the meetings of the 26th session of the joint committee, the Secretary General asked the Iraqi side to endorse the agreement inked in 2009 between the two countries for setting up a joint free trade zone. It is worth noting that Jordan and Iraq plan to study ways to enhance expertise exchange in the field of competitiveness and to facilitate the flow of Jordanian vegetables to the Iraqi markets, and to support Jordanian firms that exported goods to Iraq's public and private sectors before and after 1992.
