ME reports 1% fall in tourists numbers in Jan-Aug

(MENAFN) The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced that the number of tourists visiting the Middle East during the first 8 months of the year dipped 1 percent, reported Arabian Business. The organization said that the region continues to show signs of recovery, with Egypt posting promising results. Although the January-August period saw a small decline in tourists numbers, however, it is still better than the drop of 7 percent recorded in last year's same period, which was affected by the Arab Spring. On the other hand, the number of international tourists rose by 4 percent globally, reaching a record 705 million, and the number is expected to reach 1 billion by the end of 2012. It is worth noting that the UNWTO forecasts the number of tourists to rise between 3 and 4 percent for the whole year.
