Qatar receives fourth C-17 Globemaster from Boeing

(MENAFN) Boeing vice president, Airlift and C-17 program manager, Bob Ciesla, stated that the company has handed over the fourth C-17 Globemaster to the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF), reported Arabian Business. Ciesla said that the delivery is part of a contract inked in 2008 between the US government and Qatar, which received the third airlifter earlier in 2012. The deal with the US plane manufacturer was signed for two advanced airlifters and associated equipment and services, with options for another 2 planes. The plane maker handed over the first two C-17s in 2009. The Gulf Emirate used its C-17s to support the NATO-led operation in Libya, and to provide relief for drought victims in Kenya; moreover, they were used in 2010 to deliver humanitarian aid to Haiti and Chile as the two countries were hit with devastating earthquakes. It is worth noting that Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to order the C-17.
