Arabtec wins USD653m museum contract in Abu Dhabi

(MENAFN) Dubai-based Arabtec Holdings has won a USD653 million contract to build a branch of France's Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi, Reuters reported. Abu Dhabi government looks to build three iconic museums near its downtown area as it seeks to turn Abu Dhabi into a tourism hotspot. In addition to the Louvre project, slated for completion in 2015, Abu Dhabi plans to build a branch of the Guggenheim of the US, and the Zayed National Museum. The museum will host archaeological artifacts and works of art from a wide range of periods and cultures. Originally, all three of the Abu Dhabi museums were to be built between 2013 and 2014. The Guggenheim is now slated for 2017 and the Zayed National Museum for 2016.
