Saudi SWCC to set up world's largest water desalination plant in 2014

(MENAFN) Saudi Saline Water Conversion Corp. (SWCC) is set to build the world's biggest water desalination plant in Rabigh, Al Eqtisadiyah newspaper reported. The paper said the Rabigh desalination plant, on the Red Sea coast, will have a capacity of 600,000 cubic meters per day of desalinated water. The paper also said that SWCC is expected to start building the plant in the first quarter of 2014, and is poised to complete in 2018. SWCC said that the plant will operate using the reverse osmosis system, and is aimed to secure water supplies to all areas around Rabigh. The company has said it plans to nearly double energy-intensive desalinated water production to almost 6 million cubic metres per day by the end of 2015 as water consumption in the desert Kingdom is increasing rapidly.
