Emgas signs deal to produce green fuel in Dubai

(MENAFN) Dubai Municipality has signed a deal with Emirates Gas (Emgas), a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc), to treat landfill and sewage waste to generate Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Gulf News reported. The municipality is seeking to produce enough CNG from its sewage treatment plants and landfill sites to power 15,000 light commercial vehicles every day. The CNG plant, expected to be operational within a year, will convert waste matter to bio-methane before compressing it into CNG form to be used as an automotive green fuel. When it becomes operational, the plant will minimize the amount of waste being treated at the landfills in Al Qusais and Jebel Ali. Officials at Enoc explained that the CNG will be marketed for use as automotive fuel, which will contribute to curbing carbon emissions and promote sustainable development.
