Egypt welcomes 1m tourists in Dec 2012

(MENAFN) Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that in the last month of 2012, the country received nearly 1 million tourists, reported Xinhua News. CAMPAS said that the figure represents a rise of 14.5 percent from 2011's same period, when the number of visitors was 900,000. The agency noted that most of the tourists arriving to the country came from Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The political turmoil that erupted early 2011 has slashed the number of tourists visiting the North African country in the past two years, thus, eroding tourism revenues, a vital source of foreign currency. It is worth noting that in December 2010, before the onset of the uprising, Egypt received 1.3 million tourists.
