    ME carriers record 14.3% gain in Jan passenger demand: IATA

    (MENAFN) The International Air Transport Association's (IATA) director general and CEO, Tony Tyler, stated that carriers in the Middle East posted a 14.3-percent rise in passenger demand in January, reported Arabian Business. Tyler said that available capacity also grew by 14.4 percent, while load factors exceeded the global average, standing at 78.6 percent, noting that these airlines ranked as the best performers globally in terms of passenger numbers in the first month of 2013. Meanwhile, Latin American airlines came second, with passenger demand growing by 12.2 percent in January, whereas capacity rose by 13.7 percent. However, carriers in Europe posted a slight rise in demand, at just 2.1 percent, while capacity edged up by 0.4 percent. It is worth noting that globally, demand rose 2.7 percent, and capacity grew 2.2 percent, whereas the average global load factor stood at 77.1 percent.
