ME carriers' freight demand up 16.3% in January

(MENAFN) A recent report by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said Middle Eastern carriers were the fastest growing in terms of cargo business in January, Arabian Business reported. The report also said that the region's airlines saw a 16.3 percent increase in freight demand in January from a year earlier, faster than a 12.4 percent capacity expansion. Freight demand grew 14.7 percent in the Middle East last year, compared to 8.2 percent growth in the previous year. The cargo growth was coupled with 14.3 percent uptick in demand in January, which was evenly matched by a 14.4 percent rise in available capacity. The report added that Middle East's airlines continue to benefit from route and capacity expansion into rapidly growing economies in West Africa and Asia.
