(MENAFN) Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) stated that in 2012, the number of visitors who came to the country jumped by 17.1 percent from 2011 to nearly 11.5 million, reported Xinhua News. The agency said that the figure is compared with 9.8 million in the previous year, and with 14.7 million in 2010. It added that the number of tourists from Arab countries grew by 26 percent to 2.3 million, compared with 1.8 million a year earlier. CAPMAS noted that the bulk of visitors came from Western Europe, followed by Eastern Europe and the Middle East. It is worth noting that Egypt's tourism sector generates 11 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
