Saudi Aramco signs gas technology deal with Shell

(MENAFN) Shell Global Solutions International B.V. executive vice president, Ed Daniels, stated that the company has inked an agreement with Saudi Aramco to provide the needed technology for a residue gasification unit, reported Arab News. Daniels said that the Jazan Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Project (IGCC) contract comprises the licensing of Shell gasification and acid gas removal technologies and the provision of engineering services. He added that the IGCC allows the gasification of low-value residue feedstock to generate syngas for power generation, which will supply electricity to the Jazan refinery and within the country. The deal comes as Saudi plans to transform Jazan to a new economic city that would comprise a new refinery and the IGCC, which would be located 70 km north of the city. It is worth noting that Shell, which will be the supplier of the technology for the world's largest gas and residue gasification units, will also treat the off gases from the acid gas removal unit through its CRI/Criterion catalysts and a sulphur recovery unit (SRU).
