Oman's inflation rate unchanged in Jan, at 2.8%

(MENAFN) Oman's National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) stated that in January, the country's annual inflation level was unchanged from December, at 2.8 percent, reported Muscat Daily. The agency said that since October 2012, the Sultanate's inflation rate has stayed under 3 percent. It added that although food commodities' costs were unchanged, nevertheless, prices of fish and fish products gained 4.1 percent from a month before. Furthermore, the beverages price index rose 5.2 percent; while fruits and vegetables prices have either fell marginally or stayed the same for the last 3 months. It is worth noting that annual inflation in the food, beverages and tobacco category, which accounts for more than 30 percent of the country's consumer price index (CPI), stood at 2.4 percent in 2013's first month.
