Saudi tourism sector to employ 1.8m by decade-end

(MENAFN) The Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) stated that by the end of the decade, around 1.8 million people will work in the country's tourism industry, reported Arabian Business. The central bank said that the number is nearly triple the 670,000 recorded in 2011, when the figure rose by 5.9 percent from a year before. It added that the sector is projected to create 841,000 direct jobs and 421,000 indirect jobs in 2 years, while the number of direct jobs will grow to 1.2 million by 2020 and that of indirect ones will reach 591,000. It is worth noting that in 2011, workers in tourism represented 7.6 percent of the Kingdom's total 8.8 million workers, whereas total spending on the sector in the year stood at USD21.6 billion.
