Dubai launches USD2.72b power, water desalination plant

(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) managing director and CEO, Saeed Al Tayer, announced that Dubai launched the USD2.72 billion M Station, the UAE's largest power production and water desalination plant, reported Gulf News. Al Tayer said that the plant, which will contribute with nearly 20 percent of Dubai's needs of power and desalinated water, was established in collaboration with several foreign project consultants and contractors, such as Fitcher, Doosan, Alstom, Fisia and Siemens. The plant has a daily capacity of 2.060 MW of electricity and 140 million imperial gallons (MIG) of desalinated water. He added that the facility comprises 6 F-class gas turbines, each generating 234 MW, 3 steam turbines, each generating 218 MW, 8 MSF desalination units of 17.5 MIG per day, 6 heat-recovery boilers, 2 dual-fuel fired auxiliary boilers of 370 tons per hour and 16 fuel oil storage tanks, with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters, each. It is worth noting that the M-station will boost Dewa's daily installed power capacity to 9.646 MW, and water capacity to 470 MIG.
