French Total to drill for gas in Libya in May

(MENAFN) Total Exploration and Production in Libya's managing director, Bernard Avignon, announced that during the coming month, the energy firm will begin exploratory drilling for gas in the North African country, reported Gulf Daily News. Avignon added that the drilling work will focus on 2 wells in the area, where the company hopes to find more gas. He added that work will start once a drilling rig that is undergoing tests in Croatia arrives to the exploration area. The French company's oil output in Libya stands at 41,000 barrels per day (bpd) at the current time at its offshore Al Jurf field, whereas output at its onshore Mabrouk field stands at 35,000 bpd. It is worth noting that Total operates in Libya via the Mabrouk joint venture with the state National Oil Corporation.
