    Dubai endorses USD10.8m cycling tracks plan

    (MENAFN) Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) chairman and executive director, Mattar Al Tayer, announced that the authority has endorsed a USD10.8 million plan to build 52km of cycling tracks over the coming 3 years, reported Arabian Business. Al Tayer added that the cycling facilities will cover Al Barsha, Al Khawaneej, Al Warqa, Al Qouz, Al Safouh Road, Al Mamzar Park, Mushrif Park, Hor Al Anz East, and Mirdif. He noted that the aim of the cycling tracks is to lower car usage and promote the use of bikes as an environment-friendly transit means. At the current time, the RTA is building a 4.5km-long track in central Bur Dubai, and has finished the designs of 4 tracks connecting Jumeirah Road with 4 metro stations on the Sheikh Zayed Road; furthermore, it has finished the construction of 1,400 bike racks around the metro stations.
