Emirates-Qantas alliance gets New Zealand's nod

(MENAFN) New Zealand's Transport Minister, Gerry Brownlee, stated that the government has okayed the Qantas-Emirates alliance, giving the green light to shared services on routes between Australia and New Zealand, reported Xinhua News. Brownlee added that the two carries would collaborate on passenger and cargo transport operations in addition to associated services for an initial period of 5 years. Furthermore, the alliance permitted UAE's Emirates to offer South Island mountain resort Queenstown and Wellington as tourism destinations on its network. It is worth noting that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had endorsed the tie up between the national airline Qantas and Emirates, conditional on the carriers maintaining their pre-alliance aggregate capacity.
