GDF Suez may join a French nuclear bid in Saudi Arabia

(MENAFN) French utility GDF Suez is mulling joining an expected French bid to build a nuclear-reactor project in Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported citing an interview with the group's CEO. GDF Suez CEO Gerald Mestrallet said to business daily Les Echos would consider a role in the Saudi bid, which has so far been dominated by French utility EDF and reactor builder Areva. GDF was part of a consortium, also including EDF, Areva and oil major Total, which suffered a shock loss of a USD40 billion contract in Abu Dhabi in 2009. Saudi Arabia, the largest oil producer in the world, is considering building 17 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2032.
