Qatar's Ashghal launches USD474m sanitation project

(MENAFN) The Qatar Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has unveiled a new USD474 million sanitation project to be built in the northern area of Doha, the Gulf Times reported. The project will include the design and constitution of a wastewater pumping station, pipeline network and a lifting station. Ashghal has also announced the completion of the expansion work under the second phase of the USD190 million Doha South Wastewater Treatment Plant, lifting its daily capacity to 180,000m3 from 106,000m3. In January, Ashghal said it would carry out USD2.7 billion worth of sanitation projects in Doha in an effort to meet the projected increase in demand for sanitation services over the next 50 years. The six sets of projects involve 15 contracts for upgrades to sanitation infrastructure throughout the city and the construction of a major tunnel to collect all wastewater and connect it with new treatment facilities.
