    Conglomerate to link GCC with fiber network

    (MENAFN) A telecom conglomerate in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has been formed to construct a high-bandwidth transmission cable system across the GCC, The Peninsula Qatar reported. The system will offer an economically and technically competitive connectivity in the Gulf as well as enable a terrestrial route to Europe to reduce latency and increase reliability. A 100G optical transport network (OTN) is to be built atop a 1,400 kilometers terrestrial fibre optic cable to cope with increasing demand in the GCC. The new system, dubbed Middle East-Europe Terrestrial System (MEETS), was planned and promoted by Vodafone, du, Zain and Zajil. The landing party for the project in the UAE will be du.
