    UAE: consumer concerns over VAT decreased

    (MENAFN) UAE Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri revealed the piling tensions over value added tax (VAT) effects to be shrinking.

    The amount of calls received from consumers have seen a reduction from 3,261 on January 1st, the day VAT was launched, to 493 after two weeks, the minister confirmed during a meeting of the Higher Committee of Consumer Protection.

    He declared "the committee received growing calls from the consumers during the first days of the VAT application. People had some concerns, but their worries have ebbed with the passage of time."

    The committee address, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) general director Khalid Ali Al Bustani added, have been overwhelmed with complaints that concerned price hikes, tax registration numbers and erroneous calculation of VAT on some commodities.
