    KSA, US ink deal on intellectual property rights partnership

    (MENAFN) The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property inked a memorandum of understanding with the US Patent and Trademark Office on an intellectual property rights partnership.

    Under the MoU, the two Saudi and American sides are to share their expertise on the area of intellectual property rights and are to have trips made by specialists.

    Executive chairman Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed Al-Swailem penned the cooperation agreement on the sidelines of the 58th General Assembly of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

    The deal was also signed by Andrei Lancu, undersecretary of commerce for intellectual property and director of the US Patent and Trademark Office.

    The purpose behind the deal is to ease the procedures of processing, assessment and registration of applications for patents, industrial designs and trademarks.

    The deal also targets the development of bilateral cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the US.
