Jordan, Syria to see stronger economic ties after border re-opening

(MENAFN) Jordan is expected to bolster its economic relations with Syria after the re-opening of the Jaber border crossing.

Experts suggested that the re-opening of the border crossing is to drive a boost in trade ties between Jordan and Syria.

Wajdi Makhamreh, economist in Middle East investment, stated: "the reopening of the borders is good news. It will take some time before we actually see resumption in trade exchange."

The economist added "Syria is a big market for Jordanian industries, products and fruits and vegetables, and several economic sectors are upbeat about the reopening of the borders."

Jordan exported more than 200,000 metric tones of fruits and vegetables a year to Syria ahead of 2011.
