Iraq inks power generation deals with Siemens, GE

(MENAFN) Iraq was announced to have inked memorandums of understanding on Monday with both Siemens and General Electric (GE).

The Iraqi government declared the MoUs to be allowing for the supply of power generation at a capacity of 24 gigawatts.

"The Ministry of Electricity signed two MoUs with the German energy company Siemens and the U.S. GE to increase Iraq's production of electricity," as stated the ministry's spokesman Mosab al-Modaris.

The USD10 million deal with Siemens, the spokesman said, is to help the injection of 11 more gigawatts into the Iraqi power generation capacity over four years.

The USD15 million deal with GE was also confirmed by Modaris to be adding 14 gigawatts to Iraq's power generation capacity over 3-5 years.

Siemens stated that the "roadmap proposes cost savings in billions of dollars and generating additional electricity 24/7 for 23 million people."
