Iran's IRIR, German firms to introduce cargo trains in 2019

(MENAFN) The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR) and German firms were reported to be expected to soon introduce cargo trains.

IRIR's International Affairs Department deputy head Mojgan Kordbacheh stated: "negotiations started two years ago and, at present, we are in talks to sort out regulation-connected issues."

The deputy head confirmed that the first cargo train could be put into operation starting 2019, with the rail route designed for Iran-Europe trade of products.

Iran is looking to establish a number of rail corridors to Europe, as previously announced IRIR board member Hossein Ashouri.

The board member affirmed: "the planned corridors include a route from Azerbaijan and Russia, another from Georgia and Black Sea, and a third through Turkey."

Ashouri added: "we have been discussing parallel routes with German companies and the officials of participating states."
