Moroccan trade deficit surges 7.7 percent

(MENAFN) Morocco registered during the first eleven months of this year a 7.7 percent hike in its trade deficit, reaching USD19.5 billion.

The Moroccan trade deficit boost was attributed to a hike by 8.8 percent seen in the country's imports, which stood at USD45.5 billion.

The increase in imports was also driven by an 18.4 percent raise in energy prices, along with raw materials by 18.2 percent and equipment by 7.8 percent.

Exports of Morocco posted a 9.7 percent surge during the period to hit more than USD26 billion, despite recorded a value less than imports.

The country's exports jump was driven by a 13.2 percent increase in phosphate, 13.1 percent raise in aeronautics goods, as well as a 10.6 percent hike in vehicle industry products.
