Phase 1 of Egypt-Sudan electricity interconnection to wrap up Jan

(MENAFN) Egypt and Sudan were declared to be wrapping up phase one of their electricity interconnection project late January of next year.

Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy spokesman, Ayman Hamza, made the announcement after talks between Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, and Sudanese Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electricity Kedir Kesem.

The Egyptian spokesman confirmed that "operation tests are expected to start by the end of January 2019."

The project between Egypt and Sudan, the spokesman added, will be costing around USD6.7 million.

Hamza further added that the linkage line will be covering around 100 kilometers, with the 100-MW transmission line in the first phase to be increased to hit around 500 KV in phase two.
