    Tunisia granted USD5.3b loans 2014-18

(MENAFN) Tunisia was merely granted USD5.3 billion in loans in the past four years, dismissing reports of a much higher number.

It comes after reports spread of Tunisia receiving as much as USD13.5 billion of loans, with such rumors rejected by Tunisian Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation, Ziad Ladhari.

"The government is compelled to borrow," the minister insisted during a parliamentary meeting on the approval of new loans for the 2019 budget.

Ladhari added that "there is a difference between borrowing and agreements signed with several international lenders."
